Layla and Devin continued their daily walk after school. Layla had so many thoughts going through her mind after the conversation with Rob. She was still trying to wrap her mind around the fact that Devin shared information about his college choices with a "new" friend before her.
"So, are we going to discuss you going to school in Georgia, Devin?"
"I don't feel like talking to you about this Layla. This stuff always turns into a argument between us." says Devin, while he walks eagerly to his destination and leaving Layla behind with unanswered questions.Layla was still trying to figure out why a conversation about colleges triggered so many aggressive reactions from Devin. Layla couldn't stress about it because she had new information for Devin too.
Later on that evening, Layla made it home and realized she still hadn't spoke with Devin. She decided to give him a break for the rest of the day. She logs in on Twitter to see that Devin had been tweeting and retweeting relationship tips and liking all these different pictures. Layla decided to start a thread of tweets on her own to inadvertently receive a reaction from Devin. A few tweets in, Layla definitely got the reaction she was not expecting. Devin blocked her from all of his social media. Layla was so upset, but she came across Rob's twitter page and decided to see what he was about. Rob and Devin had a lot to talk about on twitter, but seemed as if they had just met when Layla met him.
Layla let Devin have his fun with blocking her; they always went through this and got over it. She knew he had to deal with her at school the next day. She went to sleep on the situation in hopes of a brighter day tomorrow.
At school, Layla approached Devin and spoke as if nothing happened yesterday. Devin barely wanted to speak back to Layla.
"Devin do you want---" says Layla as she was quickly interrupted by Devin.
"Layla, I'm not talking to you about this. Not now, not today, not later." says Devin as he walks off to head to class. Layla was only going to suggest they got lunch together later. Layla grew worried about their relationship as it became increasingly annoying how Devin was responding to her; it was unlike him to neglect her as much as he has. The situation was going too far over nothing.
Layla found Desiree' at lunch and suggested an idea to bring Devin back around.
"So, you remember the boy Rob that Devin met?" says Layla, eagerly, to tell her best friend about this idea because Desiree' was always the best wing man back in the day.
"Yes, i remember? What you got up your sleeves Lay?"
"I was thinking maybe, I can set it up for you guys to meet, and we all hang out like a double date. You know him and Devin are clearly best friends now."
"I mean, what does he look like Layla? And how you know Devin is going to come around?"
"We will have to hope for the best if he comes. And Trust me, Rob is cute. Not to mention he's tall. I know you like them tall and skinny!"
Both girls laughed and Desiree' agreed to the plan. Layla decided to message Rob on twitter to set up the date. Rob requested a picture of Desiree', and Layla had plenty. Rob proceeded to confirm with Layla that he was up for meeting her friend, only if Devin came too. Despite the awkward vibe between Layla and Devin, she decided to text him about the plans for the evening after school. Surprisingly, Devin responded and agreed to hang with the group tonight.
After school, Layla and Desiree' decided they would just meet up at Layla's house and meet Devin and Rob at the bowling alley. The girls got dressed quickly, finished their make up and had their music blasting trying to set the mood to have fun. Desiree' took the longest to get dressed and Layla decided to text Rob from Desiree's phone with a, "I can't wait to meet you text." Desiree' came back to a response from Rob that had a kissy face emoji. She unlocked her phone to see Layla had sent out the text. Desiree' threw a pillow at Layla and told her she had to take a shot of Hennessy or she wasn't going any more. This meant a lot to Layla, but she could not take the shot. Desiree' knew that Layla had always been down to take a few shots before they went out, but Layla was denying every request of peer pressure. Finally, Layla went into her bag to give Desiree' the secret she had been holding onto for months. Layla was pregnant.
"Layla, I know this is not what I think it is..." says Desiree' very speechless.
"I know Desi. I've been trying to tell you all for the longest but I didn't know what I was gonna' do. That's why i need Devin stop acting like a jerk for one minute and hear me out. He thinks I'm upset about his decisions on what universities to attend. I'm just concerned about our distance if we are bringing a child into the world." says Layla very concerned and crying at this point.
Desiree' didn't know what to say except comfort her friend and support her as best as possible.
"Layla, I'm here for you. You know that. Are you going to tell Devin?"
"That's the plan, but at this point, when will be the right time?"
"You will figure it out. Let's just go have fun and clear your mind for a second. I wasn't ready for all that, girl."
The girls left and met Rob and Devin at the bowling alley. They already had the lane and our shoes ready. Desiree' and Rob seemed to connect immediately. Layla and Devin finally was able to talk to each other, but something still was not right. Devin's phone kept vibrating, but he told Layla it was twitter notifications. Devin never really had friends at all, so she didn't think anything of it. She decided just apologize to Devin for everything and suggested that they just put the past where it belongs and move forward. Devin agreed, but didn't really seem to interested in the idea of moving forward. He was just into his phone and all the retweets he was getting. Layla left to go to the bathroom. Desiree' quickly went in right after her to warn her that what Layla thought were tweets on Devin's phone were actually text messages, text messages from Rob. Layla thought that Desiree' was being her "extra" self as usual. Guys always texted each other to give him the go if the friend was cute or not. Desiree' quickly interrupted those naive thoughts and let Layla know what those text messages were really about.
